It has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. On heating in air it oxides quickly and the surfaces are easily tarnished by exposure to the various sulphur compounds and acids present in the atmosphere.

Copper may be deposited as a bright or a dull coating in brass and aluminum as a under coat for Nickel, Tin & Silver Plating. Copper Plating is also used as a lubricant in bearings, housings and piston’s rings. Thick Copper Plating is also useful in selective case hardening of automobile parts.
